Morning all, greetings from a Covid house! First time for us and the sore throats is indeed like knives TA. We’re both better but short on energy.

I had a phone call on Friday to say that the NHS job I interviewed for in July and got pipped at the post for by an internal candidate is mine if I want it!! The internal candidate hasn't worked out (not sure why....) and they are happy to wait for me to finish my notice period. So happy that I a) don't have to complete any more applications or attend interviews and b) I won't have a gap in employment/earnings. Plus I get to save the compensation payout from my current job. Relief all round. That's brilliant news CoxySorry for mixing up Snoozer and Scarlet - I did search the threads but was in bed using the small iPad.Wicked Lady - if the new car has an usb socket then the phone can plug in there and be used the same or perhaps the car has a screen which shows ApplePlay or the Google equivalent. The smelly hire car I have just now is three years old and has the socket. I was unsure of my automatic when I bought the car last year but now would be very reluctant to go back to a manual.DP1 - what a shame about the end to your DDs holiday, it's good that she's being looked after. Little ones always think that they are the first person to come across something, it's quite charming. They delight in each small discovery.TA - so sorry that you are feeling wretched. Keep pushing fluids and get under your heated throw. It's lovely to read that the DGDs still treasure their favourite food, they'll remember that in years to come.Izzy - well done on the volunteering, I hope that you enjoy it.Camelot - I'm glad that you're back, you choose the best day for travelling. At Penrith did you go into Cranston's? It's a wonderful farm shop. I've just eaten the Coronation sausages I bought from there in May, best ones I've ever had. It's almost dark enough to put on a light here though about 10 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. I've brought the second duvet out of hibernation to air. I probably won't do the joining up (via cufflink like things) as it makes the whole set very difficult to manage when changing the cover. I'll just stick it on top. Last winter I used a heated throw over the bed, on top of the duvet, for extra heat when needed, as well as the usual bottom one. My cottage is stone built and much colder than more modern places, I also don't much like a heated bedroom so this solution worked for me.Strictly time now.PS - on the decluttering thread weenancyinamerica wrote this:
Wanted to remind anyone who is interested that my library in Anaheim, California lets everyone around the world use their online services for free - this includes eBooks and language lessons. No charge to rent the books.
Residents of other countries may sign up for APL online services by visiting anaheim.net/librarycard and then selecting the link for Online Services Card Application for international residents.I thought that some here may be interested. Thanks weenancy.

Gers and TA, yes I'm in Jersey and haven't been online much. We're having a lazier day today though. I must say I will miss the attentive staff at this rather luxurious hotel, it's a lovely place. I stopped them changing the sheets this morning which they do after four nights but we're only here one more night so it would have been so wasteful.
We've been very lucky with the weather and missed the few showers there have been. I accomplished one of the items on my bucket list, a visit to Jersey zoo which I've wanted to do since reading Gerald Durrell's books as a teenager. We also spent several hours in the war tunnels which were very interesting.
Coxy, well done, what a piece of good fortune (although you must have made your own luck to be remembered).
TA get well soon and the same to your daughter dp1.
Scarlet fingers crossed for a good result for DH
Wicked Lady, I wouldn't go back to a manual car now.
Nanny, I hope the new tablets do the trick.
Apologies to anyone I've forgotten.
Have a good day.

Hello again, thanks everyone for your good wishes for my dh.
I've just reread my post, and I haven't expressed myself very well.
What I should have said was that the worst case was the possible health condition, not that he couldn't fly!
Obviously his health is more important, much as we would like to go to Oz.
Hope you understand what I'm on about !8 -
Not posted for a few days - it was a busy week with the men doing our front garden. Only 2 of us so we have a limited number of mugs - when DGs J was here as well - I was making 6 teas and coffees.
Depleted my bank account by paying the garden man and J.
Church this morning but no afternoon service this week.
