jaypers said:I have a face to face meeting with my IFA every 6 months. There are so many different options with pension savings that I feel it is important to understand these and really get to the nuts and bolts of what suits you personally. I also like the reassurance that what I am doing still suits my needs and be able to discuss, consider and make any tweaks as time goes on. Really works for me have an expert to bounce off rather than trust my own thoughts. IFA also answers any emails etc same day if ever I need anything.0

We are early 60s and have used an IFA since 2017 so 6 years now. I self managed before then but honestly felt like I did not really know what I was doing. He has hand held us through the early years of retirement, cashflowed our income and investments and essentially made us feel confident that we can afford our current lifestyle. He has access to research tools that I cannot access and has been very careful to find out our appetite for risk so we do not invest outside that. The portfolio has outperformed benchmarks for similar funds, he keeps us well informed and we are happy with his charges. I would rather be out hiking or travelling rather than checking the FTSE and reading up on various funds and we prefer to use a professional just like we use a plumber, mechanic or electrician so it works for us.
However we did see a different IFA in 2015 and I was not happy with him as I did not feel confident he knew much more than me so this one you saw may not be the best fit if he has been unable to convince you he can help.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
