Car Insurance renewal

Hi all:
My car insurance renewal arrived in my in box and was increased by £ 100 on last years premium
i then do the comparison sites and the best quotes are from the company I am currently with but would only increase my premium by £40, ( How come ? ) can i just go ahead and take the comparison site deal and let my existing one run out or would they hike it when i go to buy it. as i am on there computer system as a current customer.
Any thoughts.
thanks

Of course you can. Just make sure you dont let them "renew" the existing one first.

Or, ring them up and tell them what you have found, they may just match the price there and then.

Read your renewal notice first, it will tell you if it is auto-renewing or not. If it is, then you have to call them (in most cases) and so may as well ask if they'll price match their online price or not.  They may well say no because the online policy is different to the one you currently have, hence the price difference, but that's fine, you just advise them you want the current one to lapse at the end of the policy and buy the new one online.
  • Give them a call and say you're thinking of leaving them unless they can give you a better renewal quote. They can play around with options in their system.
Might also be worthwhile getting a direct quote from the second best offer. And also try AA, Admiral and Direct Line who I don't think are on comparison sites.

Maybe you mean Aviva rather than Admiral? Certainly Admiral are on comparison sites, would be odd not to be given they owned one. AA I am almost certain will be too.

Ring them or web chat if they have that facility - they will most likely review the pricing of the automated renewal quote.  I did this today with my home insurance.

Its likely that they will run through all the details to make sure they are relevant and then update the pricing - we have done this a few times this year already for our three cars and earlier today for my home insurance.  Each time I decided to stick with the existing Co because the new quote was either the same or around the same as the best comparison quote.

    Hope this helps
