If they were defaulted more than 6 years ago, no entry will appear.

There has been no point in anyone threatening court action as you have been paying what you cab afford and that's all a court would order anyway.

Yes, definitely save your money into an emergency fund/fighting fund. See if your bank will give you a bit of interest for a regular savings account (Nationwide 8%?)
  • in 6 years pra have never threatened me at all. All they have done is leave phone messages(their number is blocked) politely requesting i phone them. Occasionally i get texts saying i should log on to see a "special" offer and an occasional statement also saying i should phone them. All ignored. Im beginning to think they actually dont want me to me to pay them?

They seem to have calmed down a bit with me. I got a message from them on my answerphone every two days for a year but I haven't heard anything from them for a month now (the number was blocked and I just deleted them as soon as I heard the "Please call us back....").

HFC Bank went to the wall in 2017, their unsecured loan book was sold to HSBC.

Both companies usually kept records for 6 years, but of course there may be exceptions to this rule.

Halifax generally keep records for 7 years, a little longer than most, there data diligence is better than most high street banks.

With the HFC debt originating in 2006, and the Halifax debt in 2001, the odds are stacked well in your favour here, if they cannot produce anything after say 3/6 months, then they never will.

You really do need to check your credit records with all three providers, free via MSE.

They may have defaulted, they may have been reporting Arrangement to Pay (AP) markers all these years.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Thank you to all for your advice. Every comment bolsters my confidence / education on this issue. Again, i wish i had asked for help earlier rather than bury my head in the sand all these years.  I will check my credit record also as advised.

Make sure you don't pay for this.

In fact, if you go through quidco/topcashback, they may pay you
  • Hello everyone, just some further advice needed please.

Update. Unfortunately i finally received in the post today, Oct 12th 2023, the CCA agreement from PRA Group. It looks legit to me, a print off from the date i took the credit card out  in 2001 with correct addresses and CCA terms and conditions with details of charges etc etc.

Ok, moving on, Can anyone advise me on how i go about making a settlement offer. my late dad left me just under half the £7,900.00 debt owed to PRA.

I'm in a payment plan with them paying £20 a month which will obviously take years to clear, and given that i'm 57 years old, would PRA not be wise to accept a settlement offer?

Any advice on this will be so appreciated.

ps. as of todays date i have still not had any documentation from intrum group which was requested at the start of september 2023.

    Thank you.

Off subject applogies but you mention " I'm in a payment plan with PRA paying £20 a month which will obviously take years to clear" Did you do this via your online account and put in £20, if yes did they question you, or did you have to send income/exp or chat with them?

Reason for asking CCA info confiirmed so looking to setup payment with em.
