Good news for those thinking about an upgrade.

Bad news for those already committed on the £5000 - unless retrospective in some way.

Given parliament now in recess - for conference season - suspect it's not going to be immediate.

    Sunak quote from BBC

There is also a boiler scrappage scheme which offers people £5,000 to replace their boiler and from today this will be upped to £7,500, he says.

Thanks the today bit not in the summary section - not in the bit of the live summary - I flicked back to after stopping the video.

Lost the will to live half way though the repeats during the questions by the so called media.

All well and good for the small number of people who own property suited to be heated by air-source heat-pump. IMHO most people will be happier keeping their existing gas boiler in flats, Victorian properties, anyone north of Milton Keynes etc.
  • My installer rang this evening to say they’re hopeful of getting the increased amount for my installation which they’ll then pass on. A bonus to them taking so long with the (admittedly copious) paperwork.

My brother-in-law and family live in Huddersfield and are very happy with their ASHP in their 1900’s end-terrace.

Where does this subsidy come from? and why?

From the taxpayers, via the Government so we can get Britain Green(we)

Was £5000 now £7500 and the good news it that takes nans ASHP install down to £500.

Now that is cheap and worth the swap from gas. Just waiting for Octopus to confirm once they know what's happening with the announcement yesterday.

I’m in Scotland and our grant for an ASHP was £9,000. That was a standard £7,500 plus a rural uplift of £1,500
So Rishi hasn’t announced anything remarkable, it is just bringing England in alignment with Scotland ( except the rural uplift!)

    Policy change not thought through,

Is there extra funding for the Grants? or is it just being used as larger grants so you end up with 2/3 the installs funded that would have been previously.

Other than the installs in progress where homeowners may get a £2500 reduction, whats to stop future installers and their supply chain swallowing a good chunk of the extra £2500 grant to boost their profits.

Not that it matters much to me - the peripheral work to install a heat pump is way outside what I can spend (or justify spending). So looks like at some point I'll still be forced to sell to a builder or hope a viable alternative to heat pumps is allowed for awkward houses - unless I'm deemed poor enough to be allowed to keep a boiler  - again "poor" wasn't defined yesterday but I suspect it will be benefits/capital based rather than being a "poor investment for an individual to do the work".

  • All very nice but it won't work for me as I have two north facing bay windows with pre-fensa (cr.p) double glazing, I am happy to upgrade (and downsize the bays) windows myself but not allowed unless I get the council to sign if off at an additional cost or pay even more for some fensa chap to do the work. My cheap fix is to use Celotex inserts on the inside of most of the glass panes, which works, but probably make it impossible to calculate heat loss and thus the size of the heat pump as not a permanent solution. Wonder how much of that £7500 disappears onto admin cost and overcharging (hey, it's govn money...) and it would be much more interesting if the govn just gave the dosh to people who agree to have their gas capped off and let them get on with it themselves.
