Disabled student seeking advice about laptop

Options
My friend, 60ish is taking up a part time  diploma course in one of our local universities, NI. She is after a laptop and printer any suggestions as to what company or organisation might be able to help.

She has ongoing chronic condition which keeps her out of work which means, of course, that there is little left in the bank account at the end of the month.

She is entitled to a student grant/loan as she has no previous Uni qualification and she has also applied for a disabled students allowance.

Any suggestions

  • I'm in England, so I can't say for certain that the following will apply in NI
The DSA should pay for a laptop. She should be asked to go for a Needs Assessment and they will list everything they think will be helpful, which should then be provided as part of the DSA.
My daughter is dyslexic and received a laptop (she paid a bit extra to upgrade it) a printer, headphones, a variety of programs with training in how to use them, an allowance for paper and ink. She also receives a study skill tutor but to be honest she was pretty useless!
