No hot water help !!!

Options
Last night the hot water was "jumpy" as i was running a bath, sounded like there was air in the system.

This morning heating didint work. Up the attic and checked the pressure on the combi (vaillant) last time an engineer was here he explaind breifly about pressure and I had to open 2 taps to let more water in - so I did this and hey presto we now have heating.

However - now we are not getting any water whatsoever out of the hot water taps !!!
Also i now have no idea which position the taps on the filling loop should be, the pressure on the boiler is now fine & i cant hear any water going in.

any ideas or help anyone?

Check that you have'nt closed the cold main supply to the boiler by mistake, the system should be filled to around 1.5 bar when cold.

    Hi Jubarnes

Can't suggest anything about the boiler re hot water.

If you have CH off the boiler, when the system is off it may be worth bleeding the radiators.

Do you have the owner's manual for the boiler? If not it may be worth asking the manufacturer / engineer etc for a looksee or copy.

  • Hi

Any ball type valve works the same way . The lever or slot in line with the pipe is ON. The lever or slot 90 degrees across the pipe is OFF.
You might also find ,if it's a built in filling loop, that the hot water side is closed down whilst the system is filling . Turning the filling loop off then opens the hot water circuit again (Glowworm are like this)

    Thanks for replying

I think that's what i have probably done. The problem is I have two grey taps / switches underneath my boiler they do not have markings except for saying closed on one side but no indication of which direction is closed so I have no idea which way to turn them.

I'm hoping someone can tell me which side might be the cold water supply and that all boilers turn to the left or whatever?

    Help please?

  • Convention declares that anticlockwise opens and clockwise closes.
Also Taps in-line are open, if the tap seems to cross the pipe, then the valve will close the pipe.
    Good luck
