Where I would position a Home Charger, on the wall of my garage, it might get a mobile phone signal, although that is pretty weak where I live.  And it might get my home WiFi, although only if I can persuade my wife to leave her mesh repeater on at all times.  I'm surprised there isn't more consideration given to signal issues, everyone else just seems to just assume that side of things will be fine.

Which just reminded me. I have a new (upgraded?) router sent from my provider which they recommend I move onto. But it took me an age to work out how to connect my Zappi and I'm not sure I can face going through all that again.

Although my mobile and wifi signals are quite solid, I'd assumed running a UTP network cable along with the dedicted circuit from my consumer unit, then back to my router.

  • Unfortunately I have a detached garage.  The power cable is buried, any network cable would have to be strung overhead and wouldn't look too good.  I'm not sure that many Home Chargers actually have an Ethernet port you could plug into, although I was looking at one this morning that did.

Certainly a major issue for us. Our charger had lots of problems connecting, and a friend about 300metres away with the same make has similar problems. It simply couldn't get a good phone signal, nor catch our Wifi. This could mean it was down a lot, since if it's not smart, it's not happy to work.

Finally resolved this summer by using TP Links, since there was a power socket in the garage only a metre or so from the charger, and we had a space in the router for the link at the other end.

Thank you both for your replies. I spent ages comparing and researching and decided to go for the Wallbox Pulsar Max. I think it's a bit nicer looking then the Zappi and has IO intergration already.
They are also working on the Quasar 2, which will be V2H. Also hoping that might have IO intergration as their current model does.

UK manufacturer and solar integration pushed me to Zappi.  The shape may look like a loo seat but it's handy for cable storage 😁
The Zappi gets my vote for the real time energy monitoring (you do need to buy a couple of additional CT clamps if you wan to monitor batteries, grid & solar).

And these CT clamps need to be wired in to the Zappi?  That would not be possible in my case.

Harvi allows you to use wireless CT clamps but it starts to get expensive.

In my opinion it starts off as expensive.  £55 for Harvi seems minor in comparison with the £1000 odd for the Zappi.

I wonder how many people would join Costo if there was just a one-off payment of £1000 instead of £ 75 (?) per year?
