Esure auto renewal even after I asked for it to be stopped!

I took car insurance with Esure in 2021 & after their renewal quote was up by £100+ for no reason (as seems standard nowadays) I decided to cancel auto renew.
I requested a copy of my NCD as was unsure how long I had remaining.
In the meantime I found another insurer at a much cheaper rate and went with them instead.
Having received the NCD info. from esure I presumed the cancellation of auto renew was also complete as requested. Instead they took the payment! No email to confirm renewal, no letter either.

How did you request cancellation of the auto renewal?
Simply requesting a copy of your NCD and possibly mentioning it at the time wouldn't be enough have them cancel the auto renewal process.0 -

What you should have been asking them for is to allow the policy to lapse or not renew the policy or such. If you were explicit about removing auto-renewal then that can possibly be interpreted as meaning at the next renewal you dont want it to be set to auto renew.
With most insurers if you complain about a policy renewing and can provide evidence you had bought insurance elsewhere they will refund the premiums.0 -
I called up and requested the NCD at the same time as cancelling the auto renewal. They were aware I needed the NCD for another provider but went ahead and renewed anyway.Neil49 said:How did you request cancellation of the auto renewal?

Thanks, I am getting the paperwork together and will give them a call. Fingers crossed they'll issue a refund.DullGreyGuy said:

Bizarre thing is Esure are now the lowest quote I can find.0 -
Great news!
Called esure who confirmed they could see I cancelled on 07/09/22 and will issue a full refund.
Word to the wise, ensure you have evidence if you stop auto renew & always check your statement from the date of your renewal as that's the earliest a payment on auto renew can be taken.

Not really strange, 2 years have passed which is a long time in personal lines insurance. Strategies change, target markets change and you change. With AI being involved these days the pricing can change by the second if they suddenly start getting an influx of purchases from people with common characteristics which they may want or not want.
Glad you got it sorted, certainly on checking your statements but also being clear on what you are asking for and keeping paperwork so you can prove you bought another policy elsewhere.Wid1 said:Great news!

Normally proof of NCD is simply your renewal quote which will say how many years NCD you have.0
