AVIS car rental - QuickPass preorders excess

I’ve booked and prepaid a 7day car rental in Greece and have and have also arranged  excess insurance cover for £2/ day. Today  i was I invited to register with Avis QuickPass and save time at the airport by submitting payment card/ driving licence number details and was disappointed to see I can’t decline to advance pay £198 of excess cover on FastPass. The option to deselect is greyed out giving the impression this is mandatory. 

Clearly I can decline this payment in person at the airport but posting in case anyone else feels this is mandatory and goes ahead and pays via QuickPass.

It is mandatory if you want QuickPass, you can choose not to have QuickPass and join the regular queue and deal with the sales pitch at the airport instead. 

Havent hired an Avis car in a long time so no idea if the "QuickPass" desk is actually much quicker than the regular desk. Sometimes so many buy the priority service that the basic service actually is just as quick or just there is rarely so much peak demand that everyone gets quick service... I know with Hilton HHonors I can only remember two or three times when using the members queue was in any way beneficial to check in waiting time -v- the regular queue (plenty of other benefits like free breakfast, welcome drinks, upgrades etc)

thanks for this … agree with HiltonHonors queue and will expect the heavy sales pitch. Seems hugely expensive for what will probably be as long a queue as you say.
