Hi I work at a school and have a student who has just turned 18. Parents have left her and moved out of the country and has old her she needs to support herself 😱 mother has had a mental breakdown.
She is currently boarding with someone from the church. What benefits is she entitled to? She is in full time education doing a levels. I cannot find any info apart from she can’t claim universal credit?
Please advise

As she is under 21 without parental support, she can claim UC.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-and-students"You may be able to get Universal Credit if you’re studying full-time and any of the following apply:
- you’re aged 21 or under, in full-time non-advanced education and do not have parental support"

I would suggest she gets help to claim UC from:

Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.2
