vvilkos - misleading email ad

My gmail account has received an email said to be from vvilkos and displaying text about wilkos clearance sale with a link to click.
I have not clicked because it is either a scam to gain financial details or to benefit from misrepresenting them as being wilkos (note using the double v to look like a w if read quickly).

Just thought I'd pop a note here.

I've tried reporting to gmail but I don't suppose they care as long as they are paid by the HongKong company.

    Scam!!

Why the various social media sites haven't taken down all the phishing post and why they can't deal with the emails as well completely boggles me!!   Our local SM site constantly has things about how the government is tracking everything that we do - well if the government (or anyone) was that clever why can't they stop the scammers!!!

There's another one using the Wilko logo.
    Called skirtclothes.com (Yes! Really!)
At least they're honest that they are based in Hong Kong.

...and another: dinncoat.com (allegedly based in Stoke on Trent).

I only saw the HongKong connection when I went to report/block the ad with gmail.  It wasn't obvious from the email itself.
  • How/where did you get the idea that the scammers are paying gmail?

    Is that a serious question?

If so, it is because the email is marked by gmail as "Ad" and can name the advertiser.
They also say, "This is an ad. Ads are paid and are always labelled with 'Ad' or 'Sponsored'. "

Interesting that. I have a bt e mail address and never get mails labelled as ads.
Of course you get scam/dodgy mails, but nothing sponsored by BT.
