Insuring a category N car

Hi

I've just bought very cheaply a Peugeot 206 1.4s care with 64k and one owner with fsh , but category N due to a dent in the door (tiny).

Also has a new cam belt, new exhaust, new tyres, a ten year guarantee battery.

The very nice elderly seller sent off the log book.

Now I'm about to insure it any tips?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just follow the normal process. There might be smaller number that will quote, and some may quote higher than normal

As for the dent, you could try a dent removal service

Just insure it as you would any other car.

You don't have to tell the insurer that is been written off unless they ask you, either directly or by asking you to tick a box to confirm that a list of assumptions is correct. So read the questions and assumptions carefully - but you find that the vast majority of insurers don't ask you to declare it.

Of course insurers do have access to the database of which cars have been written off so there's no need for them to ask. You might find that one or two won't quote because of it - but there are always a few at the bottom of the comparison site who won't write for your details anyway so no change there. In practice it will likely make little or no difference to the price you pay.

The main difference the cat N marker makes is that if it were to be written off again, the insurer can take the marker into account when determining the cars value, so you could receive a bit less money than you would had it never been written off before. Which is only fair, as presumably you've bought it at a bargain price just now.
