Should there be dual pricing in supermarkets?

I’ve just got back from Sainsbury’s and found huge price differences between nectar card holders and those without a nectar card. I put my shopping back on the shelves in disgust. They only want to get all your data to use to market to you and who knows what else? Maybe sell your name and address etc. I’m voting with my feet and sticking to buying all my shopping at Aldi and Lidl. I will avoid Sainsbury’s and Tesco as I believe it’s unethical to discriminate between customers.2

Stand up for your principles
And pay more5 -
It's the same with online retailers. They encourage you to sign up to their promo emails then twice a week you get sent an "exclusive" 40% off discount code. Their "normal" prices are artificially inflated and almost no-one ever actually pays them - it's just to trick you into thinking you're getting a bargain.
Obviously I don't pay the inflated prices, that would be nuts. I play the game, but I'm aware (as are, I think, most people) that it *is* a game. What else can you do?1 -

If I bought lots of branded products, I would probably be well out of pocket! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I have nectar for years and never have they sold my name or address, they are a trusted business and it would be too bad for their reputation to do that. I only get about 1 nectar email a week but you could probably unsubscribe if you felt strongly about receiving that. I like building up the points and if you remember to click on the personal offers in the app before going shopping you get lot of bonus points, I build them up over the year and it has just paid for my full Christmas food shopping, 2 weeks of shopping just to have a nectar card. I have previously tried both aldi plus lidl and made no savings compared to sainsburys, and apart from the fresh fruit and veg the quality on everything else was poor in my opinion, but obviously it depends on what you buy.
It would of course be better if they had lower prices without the nectar but I can’t see any issue with having nectar. I use the smartshop devices which also require nectar, I never queue with that checkout, shopping is already bagged just scan, tap payment card and go. (Its less stress for me 😋).
I was never keen on tesco their prices was high even with a clubcard.
I don't see it as discrimination of any kind.
The only issue I can see is how confusing it can be comparing prices if your in the shop looking around since it shows : normal price, nectar price, price per kg etc.
I usually write a shopping list before and check/compare prices on the app, it makes it easier for me as I get stressed and panic in shops I couldn't concentrate without a list.

Shops are giving the discounted price in exchange for us sharing our usage data and marketing options with them, I think that is a fair trade.7

At a certain time of the year our local supermarket do a stocktake of what is on the shelves, any that have a barcode showing they have been there awhile are brought to front of shelf. If after a couple of weeks they are still there they go on a bargain shelf which are soon snaffled up.Best bargain I got was bottle of Tullamore Dew for £10 while other bottles on the main shelf where still full price.
I have pondered this and assume barcodes dictate how long a item can stay on shelf.
