Best printer type for large number of pages per month

Help Please!
I currently have a decent printer, HP6032 bought earlier this year, manged to get 12 months instant ink and set to use the 700 pages per month option, all good, however, my son, who has a learning disability, loves 'typing' on his laptop and printing, the problem is he's doing about 1000 pages per month and is now starting to cost me.
Ideally I would love to find a way that limits the number of pages printed, I tried in the settings to only print odd page numbers to reduce it a bit.
Son will open a tab in Chrome land on some random search page, right click and print, I'll hear the printer going like the clappers with my head in my hands watching my bank account empty like I've been hacked.
I'm considering a mono laser printer, as I think toner would be a better option given the current volume of pages.
I don't want to stop him doing something he loves, never mind the meltdown it would cause by turning off the printer.
It can be a basic unit, as it will only be churning out B&W pages of A4.
So to keep him happy and prevent me from contributing to the soaring profits at HP, I'm hoping someone can offer some advice on what printer to go for, I was looking at a Brother HL1212 from Curry's £99. A compatible toner from someone like cartridge save for £16 ish on a multi buy deal, is going to be much better than the current scenario.
Cheers!

I've never used the HL1212, but Brother make lasers that work.Make sure you get the cartridges with chips in, as Brother have started using them now. Also, the drum only lasts 10,000 pages, so you will need either a drum or a new printer every 12 months, depending on how worn out the rollers are.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I use a Brother HL-L2350DW which is duplex and wireless. Brother kit tends to be very reliable. Currently about £130 on Amazon or Currys.

I use a Brother HL-1250 at work. I've used it work years and the toner seems to last forever.

I have a Canon Pixma 3600 series it is a replacement for another of the same series - I had started having problems with the old one after over 11,000 pages. I also used lookalike cartridges.New one works just fine. When youngest came back fro the USA he wanted a printer for his studio and I gave hime one I bought during Covid as I had a job to deliver and itb was the only one I could get when my old one started playing up - It did nt do Duplex printing. He managed to knock it off the shelf and has now got a Pixma 3600 - He scounges the ink off me.0
