@nologo since when has low mileage excluded any sort of warranty?

My Toyota dealer has never mentioned it.

I have had 4 Toyota and one Lexus hybrids, all doing less than your suggested required distance to keep things healthy and none have had either 12V or main battery issues, all have passed their Hybrid Health Checks with flying colours.

Not once have I connected a charger to any of them.

@photome I have regularly left my vehicles for 21 days at a time without problems.

8000 miles a year is the  required distance to keep a hybrid battery happy, a standby time (vehicle not used) of 14 days is about the most I would l suggest,  I jump start about 10 a week.  I am a toyota tech, Just buy a cheap charger until you can use the car again, then take the car to the dealer, & have them charge & test the battery.(this should take all day) the warranty will not be applicable if the mileage is low.
Are you saying you can’t leave a Toyota hybrid in ( for example) an airport car park for longer than 14 days ?
I would, but it may well need a jumpstart. (easy to do, I have a small  hand held booster I use.)

It does rather depend on how the mileage is done, and the age of the battery, most service advisers are unaware of warranty conditions until there is a problem, most dealer people wont say negative things about vehicles. this is just my experience from the launch of the prius in october 2000 until now. not meant to be overly negative, as I stated before I jump about 10 a week,  I work for a main dealer since 1997.

  • Toyota know this is an issue, they just won't admit it. The fact that your not told about it when you buy the car is probably because you didn't ask. No dealer will volunteer this info, and if you did ask they more likely to swerve the question.
  • They haven't exactly washed their hands with the issue,  if it is a warranty issue they will sort. Warranty claims don't normally include recovery, that's what breakdown cover is for and depending on what level of cover you opt for breakdown companies will recover to garages.

Just a quick question seeing as you work with Toyota. Is the 12V battery an AGM or some other type of battery?

Edit: I should have said Yaris Cross. This is what I have.

I believe it is AGM because it's in the boot and there is ventilation through to the rear passenger compartment, for airflow over the high voltage battery, and you don't want the possibility of fumes from a lead-acid battery coming directly through to the passengers. I don't work for Toyota, but that's my understanding. Mind you, I did have my Prius 12V battery changed for a sealed lead-acid one!
