Online bank accounts that don’t require spoken ID verification

My son has a Chase account but hasn’t been able to successfully switch this into FD for the switching bonus (it keeps rejecting it on Chase’s end).

He tried to open a Starling account but he is disabled and can’t speak the required phrase to complete the ID verification match on the video selfie.

Are there any others he can try? He can do photo selfie but not speech.

I’m his DWP appointee, but LPA is still going through the waiting period, so I can’t do this on his behalf.

The Natwest/RBS Hooyu identitity verification just requires you to move the camera around for the selfie, no speaking. Not a true online only bank, but you don't really need to go in branch for anything if you pass the verification.

Whichever bank your son succeeds with, he should make them aware of his disability so they know they can’t ask him to phone them. 

You might also be able to register third party access before you get LPA, or instead of LPA

I would contact Starling and explain the problem, they should be able to offer a work-around; this is after all discriminatory towards your son.

I’ve been religiously checking his LPA application and was really surprised that it just went from received to processed overnight (not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that it seemed to skip the checking pass, but it could just be delays in updating the online account). I can’t see the outcome until the letter arrives, so hopefully I can sort this after all.

He’s a young adult and I’ve been very wary about trying to contact anyone in case it flags something for coercion or fraud or something. Getting him a bank account in the first place was an ordeal! I know things will be fine with the LPA so I’ll wait for the outcome via the letter.
