Any idea how to remove this light bulb?

Just wondering if anyone can help with this?  This light doesn't work and I just can't shift the bulb to replace it.  I've tried pushing it up to twist (assuming bayonet fitting) but there's no movement in it at all.  I've tried twisting it (assuming a screw), but again, no movement at all.  I don't want to "force" it as it feels pretty fragile and I don't want to break the glass and end up with a bigger problem!  If I know whether it's a bayonet or screw fitting, I'd be a little more forceful about which way to remove it.  I don't suppose anyone can identify whether it's screw or bayonet from the style, markings, etc?  If not, anyone got any hints/tips as to how to get the damn thing out.  I'm usually pretty good with this kind of thing and never had a problem replacing a bulb before.  But this is my son's new rented flat which he's just moved into, and we don't want to trouble the landlord to get a handyman in just to change a lightbulb!

Those 4-pin compact fluorescent lamps are gonna be getting in short supply in the none too distant future - so Landlord might want to consider replacing with 'standard' B22 bayonet lampholder.  https://www.cef.co.uk/blog/2843-banned-lamps

Check out if you can source a replacement cheaply before not calling the Landlord about it?

Thanks all, I'll give it a try - I never even thought that it may be a pull out one!  I've got a couple of spare bayonet sockets so once I've got the bulb out, I'll probably just swap the socket and then use normal/modern bayonet bulbs instead of trying to source a 4 pin CFL.

Be warned, those bulbs are considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of accordingly. So don't just go lobbing them in the household waste bin.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • I’ve got loads of them in my house too and they are really annoying. I’ve replaced all the inside fittings with standard BC fittings but the outside light also has one (I believe it is 4 pin rather than 2 pin). Are there any safe conversion kits available? I see cheap adapters on the internet but I’m not convinced that these are safe. The alternative of chucking out the whole light fitting doesn’t seem very money saving.
