Parking Ticket

Hi All
Who can advise on this subject, if I was issued a parking ticket but at the time it was issued the car was not in my possession, it was with a garage being fixed, the garage owner never informed me that a ticket was issued, I only found out when I got a letter through my door for non payment. I appealed this ticket informing them the garage was in possession of my car at the time, even so that my car was SORN, as it was not being used on the road. This ticket has now escalated to court proceedings, how do I stand?
