I had the same thing with tax tree expect when i complained to them they agreed to send all my money back to HMRC by cheque but HMRC said they do not except cheques only physical payments like BACS so now TAX TREE have over £700 of my money which i could do so much with and HMRC have told me to ask TAX TREE if they can check that the cheque has been cashed which HMRC said TAX TREE will answer No but now TAX TREE won't answer any of my emails and the phone number doesn't ring . Surely this is now theft of my money ? Why is HMRC thinking that TAX TREE has our signatures and permission. Can anyone help with how i can contact this company as they are not answering my emails0

Martin, as a consumer rights campaigner and MSE, strongly pushed people to complain themselves, usually via the Resolver website if not direct and strongly advised people against using claims companies for this very reason (that and the fact they took up to 40-50% of any refund for posting a letter using the same complaints process you can use yourself for free)Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi All - I have had a similar experience and have just got off the phone to HMRC - I cannot believe that they cannot do anything when this is extremely similar to fraud. Does anyone have any information that will help me get a resolution to this issue?
Basically I had a letter same as many on here saying HMRC owed me £389.64 and would send a cheque to Tax Tree - I just thought to myself this was a 3rd party they were using and I would get my cheque. I have found out today that they have taken all the money and I havent got a penny. How is this right and how does this happen?! I have to contact them to ask for the actual form I am supposed to have signed and the IP I signed it from and if that is associated with me then HMRC will do nothing?!!
Help please!
