Amex Nectar Credit Card - renew or replace?

I probably would do that (and wait for an enhanced SUB), but I probably wouldn't advocate it as an approach as it's risky. Downgrades can't be guaranteed and you might end up having to cancel altogether to drop the £10/month commitment.PloughmansLunch said:
Would you go for the premium avios card for the sign-up bonus then downgrade, or the normal one and not worry about fees? I have a gold Amex that I have no intention of paying for in the 2nd year.WillPS said:Great choice on the Avios Mastercard. You can set up auto conversion to Nectar points within the BA Exec Club (it's deliberately hidden away and fiddly, but it will work!), I do this as I have no intention of using Avios for anything else.1 -
American Express are currently doing a refer-a-friend reward. You receive 5000 nectar points (£25) for referring someone who is then accepted for a card. I have just referred a family member and received the nectar points almost immediately so have decided that it is cost effective to keep it for another year.Debt Free: 01/01/2020

You can ask but the answer will likely be no. Amex are known to be (sometimes) willing to move you to a card with the same earning currency (i.e. ARCC/Gold/Platinum - all MR, BA Blue/Black - both Avios, Platinum Cashback/Everyday - both cash). Unfortunately they only offer one card with Nectar points, so there's nowhere to go.emperormessia said:I have the nectar card as well is it possible to switch card type for example Nectar- Gold, British Avios or everyday cashback card I don’t want to pay the fee I also don’t want to cancel the card as it has highest limit cardMoving to a new currency will require a fresh application.0 -
I switched my Amex card to the American Express rewards card. I collect Amex points, change them to Avios and then to Nectar points. A bit of a faff but as I shop at Sainsburys anyway, I save the nectar points to use at Christmas.
By the way, the easiest way to check if a shop takes Amex without asking is to look at the card terminal. If they accept Amex, the symbol will be there.1
