Balance transfer to credit card - can you go into positive credit?

Options
So I recently got a balance transfer card to transfer some of my debt to a 0% offer. The balance transfer and purchase period for this card is 3 months, which ends on October 5th. Then I have 18 months to pay it off.

I now have a very expensive dental procedure planned on the 10th of October, so right after my deal ends, which means I can't use the card to pay for it.

However I was wondering, would I be able to do a balance transfer a few days before to my normal credit card for the amount I need, so that my normal card is in positive credit? And then simply use my normal card to pay for the procedure, while I can then pay it off on the balance transfer card?

Is that something that you can do with these cards? Can you go into positive credit and then simply use it? Thanks!

You can, some lenders dont like it though as its strictly against the Ts and Cs (their reactions will differ depending on the amount and the duration we are talking about here). I briefly go into credit on one of my cards and they never have an issue but you hear tales on here of some lenders immediately issuing refunds.

    As a rule no..
You face the chance that any transfer will be bounced back.

Only real way that does not cause a issue with being in a positive balance is when a retailer refunds. In which case you simply ring up & ask for it to be transferred back to you bank account for free.

Or, spend it in a reasonably quick timeframe before they get the hump.

Hmmm, so it sounds like this is not an option then, sadly. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
  • Although it comes with its own risks, would it be an option to ask if you can pay the dental practice in advance?
