Has anyone else had their peugeot 5008 had a timing belt disintegrate inside the engine causing the oil lines/sensors/ filters to become clogged and all need replaced?

Bought from a Peugeot dealership 15 months ago at 30000 miles. I have taken it to a Peugeot service centre and they have put it on the diagnostics machine and removed the sump to find parts of the timing belt in the oil. From my research online it is a common on the petrol puretech engine. It is a failure of a part that should last minimum 60000 miles or 10 years but it is nowhere near that yet. Peugeot customer care indicated that its first service was 3000 miles outside the schedule so they cannot repair on goodwill. I bought his car second hand from one of their dealers under the impression that the service history was correct but clearly not. Has anyone else had this happen and managed to get any goodwill from Peugeot?

How old is the car? The 3 cylinder PureTech seems to have a timing belt, all the other engines have a timing chain. The 1.6 PureTech with a belt seems to show a service interval and timing belt change at 40,000 miles/4 years.

Was there any warranty specifically stated when you bought the car? Have you had it serviced since you bought it?

A dealer is not Peugeot, if you were going down a goodwill repair or contribution, and the latter is far more likely than the former, then you need to raise it with Peugeot rather than the dealer. Have you had a quote for the repairs? I suspect that that a main dealer might quote you 2k+, where as an independent garage might be closer to £1k, the kit itself is relatively cheap, the cost is mostly labour, hence independents being much cheaper if you have to go down that route.

I assume that the OP bought the car at 30,000 miles and it's now done 40,000+ miles, so is out of warranty.

It was bought from a peugeot dealership still within the manufacturers warranty. Even if the issue had arisen within the warranty period they wouldn't honour it as they say the 1st service was done outside the recommended period. We had a rough estimate of £2500. I know this is a common issue on the previous model of the 5008 and it was recalled because the engine shuts off even when driving. The engine is the 1.2 puretech gt petrol engine.

OP, I had a suspected wet belt failure in my 2008, but it turned out it was a false warning light. The Peugeot dealership i use said it would be covered by Peugeot as it was a known fault, even though I had the extended Peugeot warranty. My car was 4 years old and about 45k miles. They didn't say anything about services even though I know one must have been late at some point - currently getting a 12 month service around June time each year though car was registered in March. I bought it at 2 years old. I would have thought that subsequent services would cover a late early one - I suppose the question is what difference would it make if the first service was 3,000 miles later than scheduled.

Just a thought was the first service 3000 miles out due to the dealer not performing services during COVID. The first service on this car would have been due right in the middle of the 2021 lockdowns.

This link gives a helpful timeline of the lockdown restriction phases.

Worth going back to the dealer to question as it may then trigger a goodwill payment from Peugeot given the suggestion this is a known common fault.
