Car fault

Was driving my car a few weeks ago and a warning came on the dash ‘Service Esp’

The abs light also came on.

The warning and Abs light only comes on intermittently.

The car was going in the garage for a service and two tyres anyway. I mentioned it to the garage and asked if they sorted it when I collect it to be told the lights weren’t on so they didn’t look at it.

I’ve driven the car home and the abs light and service esp warning has come on. The steering wheel is shaking slightly under braking.

The garage did mention after the service that the handbrake was sticking. Its booked in to be repaired.

I don’t know anything about cars but my question is, could the changing of the hand brake cable to stop it sticking be linked to the warnings and shaking under braking?

my car is a 62 plate astra.

I don’t have much faith in the garage but live in a rural area and it’s the only garage.

Thanks for any help.

Steering wheel shaking suggests an issue with the front brakes, handbrakes usually operate on the rear wheels. So likely no connection.

Ask the garage to plug in their diagnostic device ( you’ll probably have to pay) they will then be able to read the error codes and tell you what the fault is..

Sounds like a sensor or ring on one of the front wheels has failed.

Electronic Stability Control (ESP) & ABS rely on the same sensor.

Does not say much for the garage given they should have had the wheels off to service & never noticed.... Rural or not, I would be looking for another garage to have a look.
