Good Afternoon.
Been trying to apply for my first passport. And didn't realise if you're born after 1983 you have to provide your parents birth certificate or passports.
Well my dad unfortunately has passed away . And me and my abusive mother are not on speaking terms. Haven't spoken to her in about 4 yrs. They didn't have passports. And they would ( her and my bro) will be awkward and pedantic about it if I asked even if was on speaking terms. ( I know what they are like) . The less they know what I'm doing the better. One reason is she never took us on holiday abroad. And she's very narcissistic.
Or I'd rather just stay home.
Surely there's a way around this? As some don't even know who their parents are for example?
Anyone been in this situation?
Thanks
Amy

You can apply for their birth certificates here
https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate
Mother wont even know

Do you know your parents birth dates and the country in which they were born ?
If they were born in England or Wales then you can simply order a copy of their birth certificates yourself from the General Register Office
Order a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)2 -

You need to create a login to the GRO website to start with.
Once logged in, start with the option to ' search the GRO indexes' towards the top right of the home page.
Select 'birth' and it wil ask you for the year the person was born - but you can choose to look up to two years either way so you have a five year window.
..Then you fill in as many fields as you can to narrow down the search, but only surname and sex are compulsory.
You can also specify whether you want to search on exact matches or not if you are not sure of the spelling.
You'll get a list of possible matches back and once you've identified the right one make a note of the GRO reference, which is something along the lines of YEAR, M,J,S or D Quarter in REGISTERPLACENAME, Volume XXX Page NNN
You can then use this reference to order a certificate.1 -
As well as your own birth certificate - All you need is your mothers birth certificate which, as other have said, you get from the GRO. As long as the name on her birth certificate is on you birth certificate (it shows her name at the time of your birth and her maiden name if there is one). If the names don’ t match you may have a problem as you will have provide evidence of her change of name.
it doesn’t matter if you don’t know your dad’s details as you nationality status will be coming through your mother. Just enter the details that are on your birth certificate.
