Hello,
On my credit report I have two defaults, one for Barclays Bank and one for PRA Group.
This is for the exact same debt, shows the same default date and the same balance however it is showing two defaulted accounts.
I feel like this will be causing me a negative affect and I have raised this with PRA Group, who purchased the debt, and they have told me

I feel like this will be causing me a negative affect and I have raised this with PRA Group, who purchased the debt, and they have told me
"I
understand that PRA Group UK Ltd and Barclays Bank UK PLC entries are reporting
for the same account, but these are not duplicate entries but are merely a
transference of the original default, and therefore we are unable to remove any
entries from your credit report."
Is this right? Any other default has been "renamed" to the new company.
Thank You

Happens occasionally, when a debt is sold, usually the original entry will be replaced by the new owners entry, but this does not always happen, and you can end up with two entries which gives the impression its two defaults, it is not.
Its just the one/same default, but reported by both companies, Barclays sold the debt to PRA Group, so Barclays entry should show a zero balance, and the date of default, the entry from PRA should show the same date of default, and the outstanding balance.
You say the Barclays entry shows the same balance as the PRA one, you can live with that, there is no more detrimental effect than what the original default would give you, basically the Barclays balance is wrong, but there is no point challenging it, as it makes no difference to anything.
Both entries will drop off your file automatically on the 6th anniversary, you don`t need to do anything else.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
