Is this the start of attempted Scam? Lloyds Payment and texts. Microsoft £11.74

all this relates to my partners account. card not used in a year or so and only used for an initial balance transfer offer (now clear). stored away, i see it right here now.

text from (Lloyds Bank?). including the last 4 digits of credit card saying i will soon receive a text to confirm "recent activity on your account".

receive text from 07897 012207. including last 4 digits of credit card and asking to confirm YES or NO to an £11.74 Microsoft Store payment.

i stopped at this point to check my Lloyds account and sure enough the £11.74 payment was there and pending.

i did then reply with NO to the text which i now regret and should have spent a little more time looking in to.

text confirms my NO reply and asks me to phone 03330459522, also got a call from same number and voicemail says its Lloyds (and calls me by my full name and title) and to ring them on that number.

i have typed all that up because my OH is actually at work and the phone is here so can't actually ring the bank yet.

Ring Lloyds from their official number from their website.
Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.

What's interesting is that the more recent comments are referring to the earlier comments as by scammers. They seem to be quite 'professional' ... thanks pfpf for letting us all know :) .
  • This does sound a little like fraud - although if the payment has been taken from the Lloyds credit card you do need to take action.

The main thing that made me suspicious is the mobile number (as banks or official organisations will never message you from a telephone number with 07).

I understand how other people are a little confused with the partner/me situation, although I had a recent issue very similar with Lloyds Bank with me and my partner’s joint current account. His debit card details were released (most likely from an internal employee apparently) and the transaction was on both due to the joint account. This would work the same way with an additional cardholder on a credit card.

As they seem to have access to the last 4 digits of your partners card, you should request a new credit card from Lloyds Bank. I’d also consider requesting a new card for yourself too for peace of mind.

Due to it being a credit card, you will be covered for the fraudulent transaction so ensure you make a claim to Lloyds Bank (either banking app or calling them) and provide details to make them accurate. If they refuse a refund, you should open a formal complaint and ensure you state that you never use the credit card itself and only for balance transfer purposes.

Is this a fact? Never say never.

And yes, it was my transaction.

I get genuine text messages from Barclays Premier occasionally and they are from a number beginning with 07.

hi. all sorted. all numbers i mentioned were legitimate. Lloyds confirmed although only £11.74 was showing they had also rejected multiple other "purchases". card cancelled and that's an end to it.

p.s this was my OH's card put as i typed the "story" i used "I" and "my" for ease of typing.
