Have I been shafted ???
Hi, I recently cancelled my energy tarriff (svr tarriff) and received a refund as my account was in credit. My account was in credit by £381 in July and August, however I was only refunded £204. I cant quite work out where the rest of the money has gone... I queried this on the phone when i cancelled on the 4th September, but didn't really get anywhere with it and they just told me my calculations were wrong. Could someone help with this ?
In short, since June we switched to a 'svr' tarriff, and have been paying £122 via direct debit every month, last direct debit went out August 25th, and looking back through energy usage, we haven't exceeded more then £90 a month in energy (gas & electric), so in theory, as we've payed £122 per month, we should still be in credit by £381 right ? I have screenshots of combined energy usage in £££s for each month from energy suppliers app for proof. How should I approach this now moving forward as I've received significantly less.
Many thanks.

What do you mean by ""cancelled my energy tariff"? Have you switched suppliers?ledge97 said:Hi, I recently cancelled my energy tarriff (svr tarriff) and received a refund as my account was in credit.
Do you have a complete set of pdf bills for the time you spent with that supplier?ledge97 said:I queried this on the phone when i cancelled on the 4th September, but didn't really get anywhere with it and they just told me my calculations were wrong. Thanks for your reply ! I didn't switch, I moved back home with parents.
I could only see a breakdown on the app, will try and download them.1 -
So you've left a property and closed an account ?ledge97 said:Thanks for your reply ! I didn't switch, I moved back home with parents.

Did you provide them with readings when you moved out and get a final bill in response ?0 -
Hi,
ok, so what was your usage since then until you cancelled, that would need to be deducted.ledge97 said:Hi, I recently cancelled my energy tarriff (svr tarriff) and received a refund as my account was in credit. My account was in credit by £381 in July and August, however I was only refunded £2040 -
If you were with a company eg EDF that only bills every 6 months the credit you see on the App can be very misleading. The figure shown is the credit/debit at the time of the last bill plus the DD made since. It DOES NOT include any estimate of the energy used.
As above download those pdfs - make your self a little spreadsheet and do your sums.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
So you would ave given them final readings on day moved out - and should get a final bill within a few weeks - and any final credit refunded or charged.ledge97 said:Thanks for your reply ! I didn't switch, I moved back home with parents.

I am "billed" monthly - but even then my credit DD / metered usage debit swings my balance around.
Other suppliers only apply that usage deduction every 3m or even every 6m.
Just check the final bill matches the readings, so charges and any payments you have made up to that date.
If you have already left you may struggle to access old bills, but by all means try.
