Applying for new credit cards time frames

Does anyone have any idea about the time frames involved in getting a new card from a bank that you previously had a card with. I think i asked M and S if they would switch/swap my card to a 0% purchase but was told i needed to cancel my current card and wait for 1 year and Sainsburys told me 3 months. Does anyone know about other banks?

Typically 6 months but check criteria for the ones you're interested in0

Correct for M&S and Sainsbury's (90 days), but the variation is huge; Santander is (or was) instant - I closed a 0% BT card one day and took out the same card with a fresh 0% deal the next. Some providers may simply not want you back for a long while - it was years before I could get another Barclay card but that could have been coincidence with changes in lending policy etc.0

Six months for Barclaycard.1

Although not directly BT related, Amex have a 2 year ‘churn time’ to become eligible for the introductory offers again.

Tesco Bank told me they'd be happy to accept a new application from me straight away when I closed my Premium card back in May.
