I'm thinking of making some home made pickles but was wondering if anyone can tell me how I can sterilise the bottles.

You can use baby sterilizing tablets or
Clean and rinse thoroughly then fill with boiling water, leave for 5 minutes then pour the water out and immediatly fill with pickle/jam/chutney etc.
There is another method using the oven, I'll see if I can find it.When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
My Sarsons book says;
"Wash them well, rinse in hot water and invert to drain. Just before filling place the jars into a cool overn 140oC, 275oF, Gas Mark 1 to sterilise & become hot. They should be filled with the hot pickle or chutney whilst still hot to prevent them cracking. If recipe recomends cold filling, sterilise jars in same way, but allow to cool before adding cold pickles"0 -

You could always give them a couple of minutes in the microwave, or if you know anyone that makes homebrew, ask for a couple of campden tablets and citric acid and make your own.37 mrstwins squares, 6 little bags, 16 RWB squares, 1 ladies cardi, 4 boobs, 20 baby hats, 4 xmas stockings, 1 scarf, 4 prs wristwarmers0

I just do mine in the dishwasher. Never done pickles but my jams have never shown any problems.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
