I started reading !!!!!! Francis novels and there were occasions when someone would be watching the horses training somewhere in Epsom, usually early morning.  It sounded so atmospheric I fancied seeing it.
Does anyone know where this happens?

Don't know about Epsom, but Newmarket is really easy to go and see horses training. It's a town totally devoted to the horse racing industry. Spent a few days there last year, really interesting. Went and saw the horses training in the morning a couple of times.

Don't think its advertised tbh, the trainers will just go there as and when.

Epsom race a week today though, and on the 1st October. Nothing until April after then, go onto the Downs and watch for free.
  • Late but .....

I'm pretty certain the car parks on Epsom Downs don't close so you can go any time.  Early around 7am would probably work but as above only the trainers know.  I have seen them later.

I think the actual course is closed when training is happening but even so stay well back.

You can get there by train, change at Sutton BUT you want Tattenham Corner station not Epsom Downs that's a longer walk.

Another place to watch racehorses in training, is Lambourn, in Berkshire. There's no dress code or payment to watch racehorses, but suggest not wearing fluorescent colours as they could distract galloping horses.

Newmarket seems.the best place as there's a horseracing museum, and the National Stud which sometimes has open days. You could also go along to the horse sales at Tattersalls, with a bit of preplanning.
