Hi, I had an email from The People's Engergy saying I could have suffered a breach of GDPR after the 2020 cyber attack.  When I've looked into it, it has been confirmed.  They have sent a link to persue a claim.  Is it worth doing? Didnt lose any money but obviously had all the emotional distress ;) Any hints?

  • Didn’t PE go bust in 2021 with BG as the SoLR? This could be yet another sophisticated scam to get your Bank details.

Hello @jojoBOB. One of my colleagues has contacted People's Energy to ask about the email. If she gets any info I'll update here.

My apologies, @la531983. She has contacted the administrators.

People's Energy still exists. It's in administration.

  • I received the same email from the administrators (their contact details are in the email) - looks legit to me.  If you don't have a claim against People's Energy then you can ignore the email.  You need to prove a financial loss from the GPDR breach which is unlikely.  The email is just asking you to submit a claim if you believe they owe you any money so they can wrap up the administration.

The email is from the Adminstrators and is legitimate. You can check what data was leaked by entering your email in https://haveibeenpwned.com/
For me this shows nearly all of my data was leaked and so I have submitted a claim as I am now more vulnerable to cybercrime and identity theft etc.
But it's up to you. If you're happy that nothing was leaked or what was can't affect you then no need to claim.

P.S. If you follow the link to the portal and enter the details they provide then you'll see it contains all your info anyway so it's not phishing for anything - it just wants to know if you want to make a claim.

  • Thanks for the info - my earlier post about this being a scam seems to have been me being over cautious so I have deleted it.

Thanks for the reply.  I did get as far as filling in the details but bottled it when it started to ask how much I'm claiming.  I too entered my details into haveibeenpwned & I have indeed had my data leaked.  Did you leave the claim amount blank?
