Octopus "Home move" service

Just posting to provide a bit of information about this, as seemingly it flies in the face of the advice we often give as standard on here.
We moved house on Friday - and as we wanted to go with Octopus in the new house, opted to use their "moving home" service. The way I expected it to work was that we would give the incumbent supplier our incoming readings, then the usual switch stuff would go on behind the scenes, and Octopus would take over a short while later.
In fact, by the evening of our first day in the new house when I first had the time to even think about meter readings, the IHD was already showing Octopus as a supplier, and our Octopus account was already showing the opening electricity reading, requesting the opening gas reading and confirming that they were our supplier at the address. As far as I can tell there is no need or reason for me to contact the previous owner's chosen supplier at all (Although obviously I have a note of the readings in case anything surfaces later) and right now I am reluctant to do so as I can't see beyond it causing issues.
It was all very efficiently done but could certainly cause confusion as there was no information provided from Octopus as to what exactly we were and weren't supposed to do, and even Octopus themselves weren't massively forthcoming when I queried it with them!

British Gas, Eon Next and OVO also offer Tariff home move service.
This thread might result in less standard responses/advice that some on forum have been giving.

With the faster supplier change system that we now have, the process will change so that contacting the current supplier in a new home will become unnecessary. At the moment we seem to be in the middle with it working that way for some and it all falling apart for others.1

Yes - I'd certainly still heartily recommend that anyone moving house still ensures that they take opening readings as previously, and keeps those somewhere safe, as they could still be needed. It's certainly no ;longer the case that we can say that "this is the process" though - more of a "watch and wait" now in many cases I suspect.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
