Resetting Firestick without remote - possible?

Hi, 4k FS, lost remote so been using app to navigate FS for a few months with no issues. Need to reset FS (which I've done a couple of times b4 with no problems on other FS's). Never tried it just using app tho and when it reset I can't get past the choose language screen as the app doesn't recognise FS. I've tried pairing and I've tried it as setting up a new device...neither option finds the FS! I've tried the usual, reboot of Fs, fully unplug, router off, uninstall and reinstall app etc etc but I still cant get app to find or pair (perhaps cos FS not on wifi yet as can't get that far?)

Spoke to Amazon who were no help at all and just wanted to sell me a new remote.

Grateful for any ideas pls?

As far as I know you can only pair the app once the stick is setup. I've not tried with a 4K Stick

Yes, I think you are right unfortunately! Oh well, just as well it was an old stick, and valuable lesson learned for future reference.

Call amazon they sent me a new remote for a 3 year old firestick when I had problems

You must have struck lucky! As mentioned in my post, I did call support and they wanted to sell me a new remote.

How is offering to sell you a new remote "no help at all"? Is your issue how much they wanted to charge for a remote compared to replacing the FS itself? If so is a remote from ebay (or other alternative sales route) a more acceptable option?

I meant they were no help in simply answering my question i.e confirming or otherwise that there wasn't a way to use the app to pair (after a reset). Just straight to we can sell u a new remote. 
I already planned to buy one on ebay if they confirmed app route wasn't doable. This I did and all is well.

I can't find it now but I remember that I used a giude from the firesticktricks site. There are two methods, with and without a remote. Maybe check the site and look for the tutorial if you haven't found the solution yet.
