Can someone also advise on whether home insurers will accept my policy without the details listed above?
Under the rules of CIDRE you must answer all questions honestly and accuraretly to the best of your ability taking into account the question asked and any helper notes on the question, similarly agreeing to any assumptions.

Under the same legislation as a consumer you are under no obligation to offer up information that the insurer has not asked about.

Not all companies ask the same questions nor make the same assumptions, just deal with each one as presented. If they dont ask about tall trees you dont need to mention them, if they ask if there are trees over 3m tall within 5m of your property then answer yes or know as appropriate
Thank you for this. I tried explaining to admiral that I don't know the height/what the person does to maintain them and they wouldn't accept that. Probably have to look else where

I had trees like this within feet of my last house.
There for 90yrs with no problems either root or branch. I was never asked by my insurance.

They appeaar to sway because the smaller  branches are flexible and it's dense in foliage.
They look fine and healthy to me.
And it's not your property or responsibility.

While there is a thing about tree roots these days it's not as bad as people think because most are aware it's more about siteing , those are well away.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

We have a large oak in our garden.   We have it checked, and trimmed if necessary, by a tree surgeon very other year.  It has a large 'buttress' at its side where it had divided centuries ago.

Insurance company has never asked about trees.

Those are young healthy trees with a fibrous root system that are not going to fall over even in the strongest storms. Conifers have very flexible branches which bend rather than snap off. I have some just the same in a neighbours garden. They’re a nuisance rather than a threat.
  • Hi,

I have the same problem. My next door neighbour has a silver birch in their front garden wishing I would say is twice as high as the house and the end of the branches are less than 5m from my house. I’m shopping around for new insurance and have have been asked about trees and answered as accurately as I can. I’ve had a polite conversation with my neighbour today about it and expressed my concerns but don’t hold out much hope of him doing anything. He does not maintain any of the numerous trees in his garden. Any advice please.
