SmartParking Bury and Debt Recovery Plus

Hi all, after nearly 2 months abroad I come home to find the following 2 letters:
1) Smart Parking PCN for £100 (60 with discount if paid in time) from Angouleme Way Park, Bury.
2) Debt Recovery Plus letter for £170 because of an unpaid parking charge
I obviously had no way of knowing that I was charged whilst abroad. I literally opened the letters today. I already called the debt collectors to explain the situation, and they asked me for proof of travel. I sent that to them, and they told me that they "understand" and that they can reduce the charge back to £100 (only for today till 4PM). I didn't want to pay it straight away on the phone because I'm pretty sure that the parking was paid with cash at the machine, but I've got no way of proving that.
The debt collectors also told me there's no point in appealing now because "This pcn is with debt recovery now Smart parking will no longer deal with you"
I just wanted to hear some wisdom here before I make any payments. Thanks.

I already called the debt collectors to explain the situation.Oh no. We really wish you hadn't.
Of course you aren't going to make payments! Ignore it entirely unless you ever get a court claim or if you move house (which you must tell them).
That's all. Perfectly safe. NO-ONE PAYS.
Please stop taking the bait of a scam.
You seem to have missed reading post 4 of the NEWBIES thread.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That's right. Unfortunately, I contacted them before I thought about checking on here. I haven't made official appeals, but I might have mentioned in our phone conversation with the debt collectors (which supposedly is recorded) who was driving. I've also shown them flight tickets. Is it still safe to ignore and do nothing?

I answered you in the full knowledge of your conversation that you wrongly had with the aggressive 'outrageous scam' debt chaser firm. I've no idea why people ring DR Plus!Unfortunately, I contacted them before I thought about checking on here.
