Nationwide payment error on e banking site

Hi All
Took out an abbey mastercard and balance transferred at 0%.
Set up a direct debit mandate to pay min monthly from my Nationwide Flexaccount. (waiting for direct debit to kick in). Fine so far...
Set up a 1 off minimum payment for November to Abbey using the Nationwide e banking system....chose payment to Abbey mastercard, using my abbey credit card number as the reference.....great.
Had a letter from Abbey the other day saying they had not received it and i was being charged a late payment fee!
Checked my Nationwide on line statement and confirmed "abbey national mastercard" had been paid 7 days prior to requirement.
Spoke to abbey, they asked what sort code and account number i paid into.
Apparently it wasn't one of theirs!!!
Whent back to Nationwide and it turns out the money was returned to my account 10 days later from MBNA!!!
It turns out that Nationwide have the wrong account details for Abbey.
They are changing them as a matter of urgency and will pay my late payment fee.

Although Abbey have, this year, launched their own credit card (underwritten by parent company Santander), some Abbey cards are still run by MBNA.

I don't use 'bill payment' for this very reason, preferring instead to send the money by 'funds transfer' after first ascertaining and using the correct payment details from the provider myself.

At the end of the day, it was your responsibility to check the payment details (sort code & account number) on the reverse of your Abbey statement, so it's good that Nationwide are refunding your fee.

Finally, and I don't want to worry you here, but you ought to check Abbey haven't withdrawn your 0% promotional rate following your non-payment...because many providers do!

Yes, i should have made 100% sure i was paying the right Abbey Mastecard company! A simple check of the statement would have shown this!
I have performed this method of transaction many times in the past, and never had a problem with the Nationwide e banking system.
They provide this "quick and easy" method of bill payment and it is in everybodies interest that it works correctly.
They were pleased i brought this matter to their attention and are reviewing with Abbey to get all payment details correct on their system.

I have received my next Abbey statement and it is still at the 0% rate. I will obviously keep an eye on it.
    Thanks for your reply.
