Lenovo T450 keyboard not working

 Good morning all

I am after any pointers please around what I might do about my Lenovo T450 keyboard after it stopped working. I am typing on a Spanish USB plug and play keyboard.

Last Saturday going into Sunday morning the following events happened.
1) I had joined a holiday apartment internet network after being part of another holiday apartment network the week before

2) I had trouble accessing Facebook, the message stating I had posted inappropriate adult material and was suspended. I never post on Facebook, only use it for access to local community info and the laptop is the only place I access it. My phone does not sync to the laptop. I state this as my wife tells me that Facebook bans and reports rarely happen overnight and perhaps the previous holiday apartment stay was where my Facebook was hacked.

3) Laptop keyboard stopped working so could not sign in.

The keyboard has FUNCTION key ability, and the touch pad facility works so can arrow up and down. The rest does nothing.I can use the touchpad to put a cursor or pointer in a type box but cannot type.

Hastily I factory rest the laptop to see if the drivers was the issue, I could not access Device Manager until I did this, apparently according to Windows, drivers are finein the keyboard area.

I have had the cover off, it does not look dirty.

Other thing to note is that the laptop is now extraordinarily slow. But that, it might be, is because it is telling me "hold on, you are Spanish, why you trying to access a UK only betting site", as an example. So slow, I had to wait minutes to post this, gave up and posted from my phone instead.
WiFi on a fire stick here is fine.

Could I have inadvertently pressed a keyboard button to prevent it working?
Are there any other things I could try? Thank you.

Should I get the keyboard working, or not even, is there any way that I can retrieve any semblance of the setup I had before Factory Reset?
Strangeley, all the pictures I had on the desktop remained but all things like MP3 music files are gone.

What type of keyboard, wired or wireless?  Could it be the battery in the Dongle?

The thread title indicates it's a laptop keyboard....

  • Apologies, and thank you both for responding.

My mistake, it is the built in laptop keyboard.
I am still typing on my Spanish plug and play keyboard. . **

    Thank you again.

**Posted from my phone, the system hangs on the laptop

    No idea.
But would it make sense to download 'Malwarebytes' and run a scan whilst trying everything else. It has 'hints' of malware.

A 'holiday apartment network', and then another one, and then a Facebook ban, and then the keyboard stopped working ......
OK it could all be coincidence.
But I think that you should be getting your machine checked over in case you have picked up some malware.
There a few fora where experts will help you do that for free. (They will pick up technical computer issues as well as malware).

    Thank you.
The prior build before the problems had Malware bytes installed as does the new build since the Factory Reset.
    Nothing has shown up since

Could not get into the system after the problems to know if Malwarebytes had found anything.

Thank you. I fully agree your thought process but am a little 'stuck' where I am .
I'll probably wait until I am home and try a UK plug and play keyboard.

I will post on the Malware bytes site. Thanks

As said it may not be malware at all, but conneting to unknown networks on holiday carries that risk.
The guys on that Malwarebytes checking/removal sub-forum will be able to tell you for sure, and will point up and help you fix any other issues too.

Simple way to check if you have a hardware issue with your keyboard is to boot into bios/uefi and see if it works there, if it does its windows that's the problem if not the keyboard is dead.

If your lenevo is like mine when my keyboard  died I had a mare changing it as everything has to come out the laptop to change it , you can't simply lift it out like other brands
