in door water/smoke feature

Hi i have just got out my water/ smoke thingy i filled it with water, and it smoked for one second then stopped, i was wondering if i put in two much water does any one have one of these?? do you cover all the thingy bob with water?? or leave part of it un covered, thanks.

Do you mean the pond mini foggers like Maplin sell? If so, they are meant to go completely under the water (spec for their basic model says 45-65mm). I've never owned one, but I think they are prone to failure of the membrane - Maplin sell spares if theirs is the right size:

I ~think~ the ceramic elements last longer if you use distilled water (though your fish will not like that!)0
