Travel insurance annual policy expiring when we are on holiday

Hi all, would appreciate some advice please.
We are going away on holiday from 23 September to 1 October. Our annual travel insurance policy ends on 27 September. Do we need to purchase a new annual policy commencing from 28 September, or does this need to start before we go on holiday? Current policy is with Admiral, who we will not renew with, but I'm uncertain as to whether the policy needs to cover a whole trip or if it's fine to have this sort of overlap.

You need to read the terms of the policy you are proposing to buy (before doing so) given you wont be renewing.
Almost all require that it starts before you depart as it isnt a renewal/continuation of cover (this wont be as you are switching insurers). Some budget ones even require the policy to be in place before the holiday is booked so that type of policy presumably isnt going to be suitable for you.1 -
Thanks. We would definitely be purchasing before we depart (purchasing as early as Sunday), however we are required to state a cover start date. I guess I'll review the ts and cs when we see who the best value for our requirements are.0

It might also be worth considering a single trip policy for this trip and then your next annual policy when you book your next trip?
