Mortage Applications And Credit Cards And Credit Ratings

I'm about 4 to 7 months probably more like 7-8 months away from applying for a mortage and I get a monthly credit rating check done. It always points out using a credit card(and not going in debt) would be good for the credit rating. It already looks good to me, but I thought everything helps no?
However I know new credit applications appear on mortage providers radar so what is the trade off here. Is it worth it to get a credit card and use it?

If you don't need a credit card, don't get one as it becomes available credit.
Your credit score is not seen by lenders (made up by the CRA to make you feel good or bad) Lenders look at your credit history (missed payments) & income to available credit ratio.Life in the slow lane0 -
I have just been approved for a Halifax mortgage and all I have on my credit file is bank account, gas and electric and water, broker advised me payment history on those is enough and she was right, all I would say is my credit file is completely clear and just years of green ticks on the accounts I have, so if you have any blotches on history it may change things.0
