Just paid car tax in full. Found out we can get 50% off. (PIP)

How would we go about this? I know about sending the cheque etc. Just wondering if they can refund half (or as appropriate) of it instead? 

Don't have a cheque book (bank doesn't offer them) and no idea what a payable order is, apparently its for government banking. (what?)

You’ll automatically get a refund for any full remaining months of vehicle tax when you apply for exemption. The refund will be sent to the address the DVLA have on their records.

But this isn't VED exemption (Higher Rate Mobility).  It is the 50% VED reduction for Standard Rate Mobility.

The hoops are different to be jumped through involving sending off paper documentation to the DVLA and a 'payment' cheque/order. https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/vehicles-and-transport

Which is one reason we've never bothered (probably foolishly with hindsight). 
The other is that it has the same restrictions on other driver personal use as an exemption does.

OP a payable order is also known as a postal order or bankers draft but they may cost money to buy. 
I'd suggest opening another bank/building society account that does offer a cheque book facility.

Allegedly (other threads on same subject) DVLA will refund the difference.  Do a forum search for previous?
