Insuring two cars at once with different insurers

Hi,
I have just (3 weeks ago) renewed the insurance on my existing car with 9+ years NCD. I ordered a new car to replace it several months ago, but supply issues being what they are the dealer couldn't give me a definite date for delivery. I'm not trading in my old car as I'll be selling it on in due course.
The dealer called today to say I can pick up the new car in a couple of weeks. WooHoo! However my existing insurers clearly don't like my choice because they have quoted me more than double what I can get for a decent (Aviva) policy on the comparison sites. But of course I can't use my NCD twice.
What's the score with that? Do I call my existing insurers and ask them to remove the NCD from my existing policy so I can use it on my new one (and pay the difference)?
For context, my existing policy premium is £170 (old, cheap car) while my new one will be £535 (new, expensive car), both assuming NCD is applied, so it's worth losing a bit in admin and extra premium on the old policy to get the NCD added to the new one.
The alternative might be to cancel the existing policy and take out a multi-car policy with Aviva but I've not run the numbers for that.
I'll be hit with a cancellation fee for the policy on the old car in a couple of months whatever I do.
Thanks,
Nomis

With many insurers you cannot remove the NCD from it mid term so if you want to use it on your new policy you will need to cancel the old one first (obv check yours isnt the exception first).
After that it really depends on how long you will be hanging onto the old car. You can insurer it separately with either a multi-car policy (its really just a multi-policy discount with most insurers) or independent policies, add it onto your new policy as a TAV, SORN it and dont insure etc1 -
