House Insurance are only offering half of my claim
However, after now looking at their reviews on Trustpilot I do wish I had looked at this first before ever taking a policy out with them because they only score 3 and have many complaints on there.
You'll find most insurers do, its the nature of a distress purchase of a highly commoditised product.
If you read complaints carefully, and understand at least a little about insurance, you'll see many are really criticising their own choices or prejudices. 1 star review for DL because you cannot speak to anyone in the UK which is odd given they dont have any overseas call centres. Another 1 star review because the third party has denied liability and DL has said it could take 3-6 months to resolve... how is the third party's denial of liability a reflection on the service from DL?
My policy book doesn't actually mention anything about matching sets or even new for old. It's very basic.
It would be highly unusual for it not to have a clause on matching sets, though they may use different terminology for it. The normal default position is matching sets aren't covered by the language used elsewhere about repairing/replacing damaged/lost items but most insurers want to be clearer that just because you bought something as 1 thing (eg dining table and 6 chairs) they will be considered separately for the purposes of claims (ie its 7 items) whereas without such language it could be argued if you have proof of purchase showing it as one line.
Whilst basic policies can be cheap they are cheap for the reason that they dont provide the same level of cover and as a result can prove expensive in the event of a claim.
