The tabloids will doing their annual mince pie taste tests soon. We don't eat pastry at all now but when we did, we would buy a selection and do our own taste tests and then we would buy the ones we liked best and freeze them.0

I help at a food bank on Saturdays that has loads of fresh/perishable stuff donated by supermarkets. We had a huge crate of “posh” x cross buns this morning. They disappeared very quicklyKatiehound said:Good grief. the C word is banned for a few more months but guess Easter eggs (the creme ones) might already (or still) available.
No fun when these items are there all the time, think Hot cross buns in summer.

Even I wouldn't eat something that old. The pastry won't be at all nice.frugalmacdugal said:Hi,was prompted to check my dozen from Lidl, bought last Christmas, never thought of freezing them, just kept in fridge, best before date, 8th November 22, so should be ripe for Christmas coming.MSE_James said:Popped in to a different Sainsbury's Local today ... same product already on 'offer' at £1.75 ...
That is a much more reasonable 30p/unit. Still a treat at that price but not a budget-buster.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

If it’s been on the shelf unopened it can be a bit dry. One of the “celebrity” chefs suggested chopping up a small citrus fruit to add moisture and flavour. Or a slug of brandy could do the trick.GaleSF63 said:
And it lasts forever even after it's been opened.maman said:I've got jars of yellow sticker mincemeat ready to make my own. 😁
. When having a kitchen reorganisation recently I found a few jars of home made mincemeat from 3 years ago. Hopefully this will be ok. Nothing like home made mince pies. 0 -
Found in Lidl earlier today, alongside the pressé:

Yes it's mid-September, but it still feels very summery to me so this planogram is most unseasonal. Judging by the gap where the lebkuchen hearts should be, not everyone agrees! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

If anyone spots decently priced gluten-free mince pies I’d love to know. Being a coeliac gets expensive.0

This was in my Lidl yesterday. I thought ‘that’s inflation gone m-a-a-d!’ til I properly read the label. They’ll be sat there a while eh.
