As this is the over 50s board, I'll put my shopping experience here. With what might be a touch of arthritis starting in my elbow, I tried out the new Dyson stick vacuum cleaners in my local Currys. The older versions were fine, but the newer models had so much weight at the top of the stick that it hurt my elbow, all the time I was using it. I think the popularity of the stick vacuum cleaners among older people was partly due to the lightness, but the recent 'improvements' have been for more features at the expense of their original appeal. I went for a more traditional Vax stretch vacuum cleaner, which means that while in use, all the weight is on the floor, and the long cord means I only have to plug it in once downstairs and once upstairs.
