Suspicious hard search from O2

Afternoon all,
So I've noticed a hard search last week from O2.
I don't have an O2 account, nor have I applied for one. I do have a Virgin Media account for domestic broadband only and I believe Virgin and O2 have merged to some degree.
As a result I'm highly suspicious of this search and want to follow it up but how?
Most searches suggest contacting the company in question but I'm not going to get anywhere with O2 am I? I'm not even a customer so surely they'll just say they don't even know me and to go away?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to contact or approach O2 or should I just file a dispute with Equifax/whoever?
Thanks,
Toby.

Virgin and O2 have merged, I have a mobile contract and my phone has moved to O2 and the direct debit has too. All painless from my point of view. If they don't contact you within the next week or two then it might be worth asking O2 about the search?

Managed to get through to O2's fraud department and it was indeed fraud. Their systems showed an account opened on the day of the search in my name and address, but other details were incorrect.
Account will be closed down. Guess it shows you should keep an eye on your credit report.5
