Travel insurance question

Hi
Has anyone ever come across the following problem please?
Booked part a world cruise joining in Singapore. The cruise company did not offer booking flights so everyone had to make their own arrangements.
What would happen if the cruise was cancelled with full refund but passengers are left with Flight and pre boarding hotels that they no longer need?
Has anyone ever come across the following problem please?

Travel insurance typically doesn't cover claims where you are able to travel but your reason for travel has disappeared (eg cancelled cruise, cancelled wedding etc).
Your best bet would have to been to book via an agent who could have booked the flights and cruise together as a package and therefore you get the protection afforded to package holidays but it looks like you've booked the cruise already so too late for that option.
You could look at flexible flights but the cost difference tends to be very high that its not worth it unless you are booking with AirMiles in which case most such bookings are flexible (BA for example can be cancelled up until the day before)0 -
Do you have travel insurance in place?pampam said:Hi

Do you have a specific reason to expect that the cruise will be cancelled?
Anyway, in that event which you describe, I would still take the flight to SIngapore and then stay there for longer using the refund from the cruise (which I assume you'd get) to pay for a hotel in Singapore. It is one of the most loveliest places in the world and I could stay there for ages without risk of boredom.1 -
Thank you. I did book the cruise through an agent. Would it be too late to ask her to add the flights to our booking please? I am not sure if the cruise will be cancelled but Chinese Whispers on social media seem to think it will. I have been hanging on to see what happens but the flights are increasing in price daily.DullGreyGuy said:Travel insurance typically doesn't cover claims where you are able to travel but your reason for travel has disappeared (eg cancelled cruise, cancelled wedding etc).

Yes, as it wasn't advertised as a single package but instead you buying two components the requirement of the legislation is that they are booked together and paid for as one payment or they are booked within 24 hours and you aren't asked for payment details on the second booking (ie they use the details held on file).pampam said:

I regularly arrange my own travel holidays and in an event like yours I would either plan to stay in city and have holiday there or look at it as a stopping point to move to somewhere else for a holiday or book flights and hotel that have cancellation rights. Flights are more expensive that way but could be better value than loosing a lot of money.pampam said:Hi
