I do recall a thread from a little while ago where someone had signed up for one of these "unlimited" deals, only for their payments to be increased after a few months because they were using too much energy!
You should check the T&C very carefully for any fair usage policy.

You should check the T&X very carefully for any fair usage policy.
There is a recent thread on Reddit, where students whose landlords had signed up to one of these 'deals' had exceeded the utilities cap and were being pursued for about £3,000.

(it also appears their landlord may not have put their deposit into the DPS and is trying to withhold it to cover the utilities shortfall, but that's another story. As QrizB suggests, do check the Ts&Cs closely).

That may have been because they went on the "capped" one, rather than the "unlimited"...

Their website does actually say "There are no over-usage fees for Unlimited Energy customers, because there’s no usage limit to go over or under." Cant find terms and conditions.

They are quoting me just over £240 per four week period, given that I currently pay about half this in a period that is longer by 2/3 days I think I will give it a miss.

As a hgh domestic user of electricity I have contacted One Utilities (and Fused Bills who seem to be the same business in all but name) to investigate their unlimited usage offers.Their quotes seem to be based on the number of tenants at the address entered in their quote system. I have asked them if their offer is applicable to home owners and what the definition of a tenant is in an owned home scenario.
As it stands, with a declaration of 4 tenants at my address, the annual cost looks very attractive.

    Their T&C are quite elusive.
I have found this T&C (for student lets, not necessarily the same as the OP's). Clauses 8.4 refers to "negligent use", and 10.2 to "fair use". 10.2 also prohibits business use, which (at a strict reading) might also exclude work-from-home.

I am in the mindset that "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". But definitely worth exploring for me with a domestic annual usage of +/- 20,000 kWh (thanks mainly to a very hungry electric AGA storage oven that can't be reheated overnight within the 5 hour off peak slot offered on most EV tariffs.)  .

I just ran a quote, it came out over four times what we currently pay.

It would be interesting to see what @lohr500 is quoted!

I can't imagine homeowners are going to get a look in. It asks for how many people are on the tenancy when you run a quote doesn't it?
Surely you have to prove this in some way to them.
  • Out of interest I’ve just got a quote which came to £210.88 a month for unlimited energy (electricity only) for two people in a two bed flat. We currently pay around £60 a month by variable direct debit.

Interestingly whilst energy is “unlimited” I noticed that it doesn’t mention this beside Water, so just something to be aware of!
