Standing charges for gas?

Martin campaigns on many topics / issues, not all of these have been given full thinking credence.

Martin would surely (!?) also point out you don't have to have a gas or electric connection at all, and you can have said connection to the grid removed, potentially f.o.c. by some suppliers and thus be "off-grid".
However, come to next cold Winter or selling residential property, good luck heating or powering your house. You could of course pay a few £k to have grid connection restored, but saving £couple of hundred a year vs. the hassle and latter cost? no ta.
